October 02, 1841

NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Oct. 2, 1841  The back page has a small report: "Mormons" noting in part: "Joseph Smith, the leader of this sect, has resigned the editorial chair of the 'Times and Seasons' to John Taylor, who tells us that 'The Temple of God in Nauvoo' is progressing by the voluntary labor of the 'Saints' who turn out with their teams, tools, etc. to aid in its construction. The timbers for the first floor of the temple were thus laid, and service performed within its walls for the first time, Sunday the 20th..." with a bit more.
Page 2 has a report for the: "Resignation of J. C. Calhoun" from the Senate, in a letter signed by him in type: J. C. Calhoun. Page 5 has: "Views of the Society of Friends With Regard to Slavery" and over 3 pagers are taken up with the: "President's Message" being his state-of-the-union address, signed: John Tyler.
Sixteen pages, 8 1/2 by 12 inches, foxing, mostly good condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
