Rare title from the mining area of Northern California...

Item # 684598

April 16, 1880

GEORGETOWN GAZETTE, El Dorado County, California, April 16, 1880

* Rare gold mining town publication

A very rare title from this now-historical site, the most northeastern town in California's Mother Lode mining territory, near the Nevada border. This is the volume 1, number 2 issue.
Less than 1000 people reside there today but in its heyday of the 1850's & 1860's the population exceeded 3000. Gold mining continued here longer than most Gold Rush towns, extending into the 20th century.
As might be suspected there are various mining related articles and advertisements, but other news reports as well. Articles include: "The Wealth of the Foothills" "Progress In Working Ores" "A California Gold Story" and more.
Four pages, evenly toned, old tape stains inside, minor tears at the margins, a bit irregular at the spine. A bit fragile & should be handled carefully.
