October 27, 1785
THE CONTINENTAL JOURNAL & WEEKLY ADVERTISER Boston, Oct. 27, 1785
* Rare 18th century American publication
* Nice herald eagle masthead engraving
The beautiful masthead is an early version of the Seal of the United States. Very displayable.
The entire front page and a portion of page 2 are taken up with the speech of the governor to his legislature, signed in type: James Bowdin. The back page has a poem: "On the Return of Doctor BENJAMIN FRANKLIN to America". Than much on: "Balloon Intelligence" which was all the rage at that time. Also a letter concerning the creation of a state of "Frankland" or "Franklin" in portions of what is currently Tennessee and Virginia.
Four pages a small hole in the masthead affects two words in the Bowdoin speech, otherwise very nice condition.
