Item # 682131

May 12, 1864

NEW YORK HERALD, May 12, 1864

* Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse
* Ulysses S. Grant vs. Robert E. Lee
* Battle of Rocky Face Ridge - Georgia MAP

The front page has a wealth of Civil War news with nice first column heads including: "GRANT !" "Our Continued Success" "The Rebels Driven to Their Breastworks" "General Assault on the Enemy's Works" "Terrific Bombardment with Siege Guns" "Another Victory For Our Troops" and more. There is also a lengthy list of: "The Casualties--Additional Names of the Killed & Wounded" and more.
But perhaps the most notable content is the single sheet "Supplement" issue attached, the front page for which is almost entirely taken up wit a huge & very detailed map headed: "THE CAMPAIGN IN GEORGIA - Rome and Dalton, with the Railroads, Turnpikes, Water Courses...General Sherman's Battle Ground."
Ten pages in total, great condition.
