Graphic & displayable issue on the death of McKinley...

Item # 682022

September 14, 1901

THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, Sept. 14, 1901

* President William McKinley assassination

The front page is very graphic, appearing more as a poster or broadside than a more tkypicdal front page of a newspaper.
The banner headline announces: "THE PRESIDENT IS DEAD; THE NATION MOURNS" with the entire page black-bordered and including an embellished photo of William McKinley. On the front page is a dispatch, datelined Buffalo, September 14, with word of his death, reading in full: "President McKinley died at 2:15 a.m. The announcement was made by Secretary Cortelyou. The president had been unconscious for several hours. The members of the family, with the exception of the bereaved wife, were at the deathbed. Mrs. McKinley was in an adjoining room. Dr. Rixley was the only physician present."
Complete in 12 pages, partially loose at the spine, some typical flaking any the margins, generally in good condition for them era. A very displayable issue. Should be handled with care.
