SPRINGFIELD DAILY REPUBLICAN, Massachusetts, July 17, 1863 The bottom of the back page has: "A National Thanksgiving for Victory - Proclamation by the President" in which Lincoln proclaims a day of thanks to Almighty God for recent victories, logically the successes at Gettysburg and Vicksburg. It is signed in type: Abraham Lincoln.
