ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, Nov. 4, 1939
* 1st colored superman comic promotion
* Very early & rare item re. this superhero
As most serious collectors of Superman material know, November 5 was the date of the very first Superman color comic strip to appear in Sunday newspapers. It was obviously a great success.
What many may not be aware of is the promotion in advance of the release.
Page 5 of the November 4 issue of this newspaper had a nearly quarter page advertisement announcing: "COMING TOMORROW......SUPERMAN In Color" with further text including a bit of his background: "Born on another planet, possessed of super-human powers, SUPERMAN flies through the air, hops over skyscrapers..." and more (see).
It concludes with: "In the Adventure Section of the Sunday POST-DISPATCH Starting Tomorrow." There is a graphic of Superman as well.
Additionally, this issue contains a black & white Superman comic strip.
We offer the complete 14 pate issue in great condition, with small binding holes at the blank spine.
