September 18, 1906

THE EVENING TRIBUNE, San Diego, Sept. 18, 1906

* Dover, Oklahoma train wreck
* Cimarron River - Kingfisher Co.
* Rock Island Railroad disaster

The top of the front page has a three column headline: "FEARFUL WRECK ON ROCK ISLAND" with subheads. (see) Surprisingly this issue is in good condition being from the "wood pulp" era. Very hard to find issues that are not totally fragile from this era in paper.
Complete with 6 pages, small library stamps within the masthead, some small binding holes along the spine, generally good.

wikipedia notes: On September 18, 1906, a bridge across the Cimarron River near Dover collapsed beneath a Rock Island train bound for Fort Worth, Texas from Chicago. The bridge was a temporary structure unable to withstand the pressure of debris and high water. Replacement with a permanent structure had been delayed by the railroad for financial reasons. Several sources report that over 100 persons were killed, although this figure is disputed.
