Special edition celebrating the birthday of USA Today's founder...

Item # 678718

March 22, 1983

USA TODAY, March 22, 1983  On this date, Allen H. Neuharth, the founder of USA Today (along with many other noteworthy accomplishments), turned 60 years old. To celebrate his birthday a handful of "special" issues were printed to commemorate the occasion - a small set which were never placed in circulation. I can only imagine his reaction when he opened up what he thought was the daily paper and found the cover story was about him. It will likely never be known whether his initial response was positive or negative, but I'm sure in the end he must have felt quite honored.

The entire front page is dedicated to "spoof" articles connecting Al to people and events of the day. See images for details.

Being offered is an issue of the rare edition.  Since only 10 are available, and these are being offered at a ridiculously low price (considering their rarity), we would prefer these to end up in the hands of 10 different collectors. Therefore, we ask each of those who have interest to only request a single issue.
The issue is complete but is being offered for the desired content. There is a slight bit of browning at the mid-fold. Otherwise, the issue is in excellent condition. The last image shown is not included. It is a photo of what the front page of the actual circulated issue for the day looked like - included in the photos to show contrast with the one being sent.
