March 12, 1857

THE DAILY UNION, Washington, D.C., March 12, 1857  One of the best newspapers to find reports on the historic Dred Scott Decision, being a paper from the home of the Supreme Court.
Page 2 has most of a column taken up with an editorial headed: "The Dead Scott Case" which begins: "On the 6th instant the Chief Justice of the United States delivered an elaborate opinion of the Supreme Court declaring the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional. We have not yet had the satisfaction of pursuing a full & an authenticated report of that opinion, and therefore can only refer to it in general terms..." with much more on this.
Another page 2 column is headed: "Dred Scott Case--Dissenting Opinions of Judges McLean and Curtis" with some great reporting on their opinions, taking most of a column.
And page 2 also has: "The President's Inaugural Address---Opinions of the Press".
Four pages, nice condition.
