The back page begins with column heads on the search for Livingstone, the African explorer, with: "LIVINGSTONE - STANLEY" "The Latest Advices from Zanzibar, Unyanyambe and Ujiji" "Reports of the Royal Geographical Society Regarding Dr. Livingstone and Mr. Stanley" "Both Explorers Safe--A Letter from the Sultan of Zanzibar".
There was some concern that David Livingstone had died as he had not been heard from in six years, hence the N.Y. Herald sent Stanley to look for him. This reports confirmation that Livingstone--whose one goal was to find the source of the Nile--was alive.
