May 15, 1945
GUERNSEY WEEKLY PRESS, May 15, 1945 This island in the English Channel was under Nazi occupation beginning June 30, 1940 until the week of this printing.
Among the front page headlines: "Fly Your Flag At Three This Afternoon!" "How The German Capitulation Was Signed" "Guernsey's 5 Years Under Nazi Rule" with the latter article beginning: "For four years, ten months, and seven days, we 23,000 people in this Island of Guernsey have endured occupation by the forces of the enemy. Now, at long last, hopes & fears, doubts & disappointments, wish-thinking and wondering-what-will happen all dissolve in an overflowing cup of joy, relief & happiness...".
A great wealth of content in this issue on the liberation of Guernsey. Certainly terrific to have this report in a Guernsey newspaper.
Four pages, large folio size, 4 pages, archivally rejoined at the spine, very nice condition. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
