1908 Wright Brothers airplane test flights...
Item # 677290
May 09, 1911
THE EVENING TRIBUNE, San Diego, May 9, 1908
* Wright Brothers test flights
* Orville & Wilbur Wright
* Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, NC
The front page is a one column heading: "WRIGHT BROTHERS AGAIN SUCCEED" (see) Surprisingly this issue is in good condition being from the "wood pulp" era. Very hard to find issues that are not totally fragile from this era in paper.
Complete with 8 pages, irregular along the spine, small library stamp within the masthead, generally nice.
wikipedia notes: In May of 1908 the Wright Brothers went back to Kitty Hawk with a modified version of their 1905 Flyer (with the inclusion of two upright seats with dual control levers) to practice for their contracted demonstration flights which required them to fly with a passenger. The "successful flight" mentioned in this article was part of this preparation. It would only be a few days later that Charlie Furnas, a mechanic from Dayton, would become the first fixed-wing aircraft passenger on separate flights with both brothers.
