Stanley, the African explorer, and Lake Victoria...

Item # 677187

November 29, 1875

NEW YORK HERALD, Nov. 29, 1875  Page 3 has terrific reporting on the explorations of Henry Stanley in Africa, much of that continent being unknown to the Western world at that time. And keep in mind that the Herald sponsored Stanley on his journey, so not surprising they would devote extensive coverage to his travels.
First column heads include: "STANLEY" "Progress of the Commander of the Herald and Telegraph Expedition in Africa" "Exploration of the Victoria Nityanza" "The American Explorer Travels Along the Southern Coast of the Lake in the Lady Alice" "Attacks and Assaults By Hostile Natives" and more.
Also featured is a very large map headed: "THE GRAND NILE RESERVOIR" "Map of the Great Lake Victoria Niyanza and its Tributaries--Speke's and Stanley's Lines of Exploration".
Reporting is found on page 4 as well as noted in the photos.
Twelve pages, some minor margin tears and a few discrete mends, generally good condition.
