THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, January, 1747  Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" with various news reports of the day, including an "Extract of a Letter from Cape Breton which is in Canada, and some reports on the trial of Lord Lovat.  There is also: "A Description of the Town and Harbour of Louisbourgh, on the Island of Cape Breton..." which takes a full column.
The map of France is present but is damaged.
Complete in 52 pages, 5 by 8 in., full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, good condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
