NEW YORK WEEKLY TRIBUNE, Nov. 21, 1866 The conclusion of the Civil War brought with it an interest in expending west, so it would not seem unusual that articles that read like a 19th century travelogue would appear in newspapers of the day.
This issue has one on page 3, which was part of a larger series: "A Trip To Colorado" "Homeward, Along the Platte". The report takes 1 1/2 columns and is very detailed on what was seen & experienced during the excursion.
The front page has: "The Indians" with a report noting in part: "...experienced the tortures of seeing his wife & four children murdered and was then horribly mutilated; his tongue cut out, ham-string severed, his fingers cut, his hands maimed his scalp torn reeking from his head which had previously been perforated with three bullets..." and more.
Eight pages, very nice condition.
