Pair of issues on the Big Springs train robbery...

Item # 675566

September 20, 1877

THE SAN DIEGO UNION, California, Sept. 20 and 28, 1877

* Union Pacific Big Springs robbery
* Old West outlaw - train robber Sam Bass

A pair of issues with the front page of the 20th including over a full with reports of the Big Springs train robbery of the Union Pacific Railroad, with heads including: "Great Train Robbery" "Express Train on the Union Pacific Railroad Stopped at Big Springs Station and Robbed of Over $65,000 in Coin--All the Passengers Also Cleaned Out".
This was the robbery that helped make famed outlaw Sam Bass infamous, although the detail were too new for the identity of the robbers to be known at that time.
The front page of the 28th has a brief report headed: "Cheyenne" "The Leader of the Union Pacific Train Robbers Overhauled--He and His Comrade Killed--$20,000 Recovered"
Four pages to each issue, a bit fragile but in nice condition.
