LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED, New York, Sept. 22, 1866 Page 4 has: "Our Base Ball Illustration", a portrait of: "W. F. Williams, B. B. Club, Washington D. C." which includes a biographical sketch of him, a pitcher for the National Club of Washington. About his pitching the biography notes: "...Mr. Williams's prominent physical attribute as a player is his great strength of arm, his speed in delivery being the feature of his pitching. He has a peculiar style of delivery, sending in the ball while in a stooping position, his aim being to deliver the ball so as to make it rise from his hand to the bat...".
There is also a full page of: "Glimpses At The Freedmen--The Freedmen's Union Industrial School Richmond, Va.", which shows "colored" women learning to sew; and: "Glimpses At The Freedmen's Bureau--Issuing Rations To The Old And Sick."
Early for such baseball content, particularly with a portrait. Sixteen pages, very nice condition.
