THE LIBERATOR, Boston, June 10, 1864  A feature of this famous anti-slavery newspaper is the ornate masthead which has prints of slaves being sold, and slaves being emancipated.
Over half of the bkpg. is taken up with: "The Case of Margaret Garner - A Vindication of Gov. Chase". See the web for more on her, a renowned case because, being an escaped slave, she chose to kill her daughter rather than see he returned to slavery. Gov. Chase was governor of Ohio at the time, who requisition her to return to Ohio to stand trial for the murder of her daughter.
Much of the issue is taken up with reports from the: "New England Anti Slavery Convention" which has: "Speech of Parker Pillsbury" "Speech of Wm. Lloyd Garrison and more. The editorial: "the Nation's Need" begins: "It is plain enough that President Lincoln is not disposed to do justice to the colored people, either in the civil or the military department..." with much more.
Four pages, never bound or trimmed, a bit of foxing, good condition.
