May 24, 1941

THE DAILY TIMES-NEWS,  Burlington, North Carolina  A pair of notable issues dated May 24 and 27, 1941

* Royal Navy HMS Hood sunk
* German Battleship Bismarck sunk
* Two issue set

Given the significance, close dates, and similar front page presentation by the same newspaper, we offer this pair, reporting in the May 24 issue: "GREATEST BRITISH WARSHIP IS SUNK" with a subhead: "Hood Is Sent To Locker by The Bismarck". And in the May 27 issue: "GREAT NAZI SHIP BISMARCK IS SUNK" with a photo of it.
This was a very notable naval battle involving the greatest battle ships in the British and German navies. The Bismarck sunk the Hood first, but was damaged in the battle, only to be sunk by a convoy of British naval vessels 3 days later.
Each issue is complete in 12 pages in in very nice condition.
