GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES, New York, July 10, 1790  On page 2 under an engraving of a heraldic eagle are "Laws Published By Authority by the Congress of the United States". There are two laws listed, the second being: "AN ACT to authorize the purchase of a tract of Land for the use of the United States." This historic act stated: "That it shall be lawful for the President ...to cause to be purchased for the use of the United States...that tract of land...in the state of New York commonly called West-Point...for the purpose of such fortifications and garrisons as may be necessary for the defence of the same." Both the acts are signed in type: John Adams, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
Most of page 3 is taken up with reports from Congress. The back page has the conclusion of the new constitution for South Carolina, as well as an: "Anecdote of Dr. Franklin".
Four pages, very nice condition.
