ST. LOUIS GLOBE-DEMOCRAT, Missouri, July 23, 1878 At the top of the front page is a stack of column heads including; "Sam Bass Carries His Gang's Secrets to the grave" with the short report found on page 3: "The Death of Sam Bass" reading: "Sam Bass died at 3:55 yesterday afternoon. He would give none of his pals away, and his last words were he knew he was going to hell, ad what he knew would go to the grave with him." Sam Bass was a famous outlaw and train robber.
The front page has: "The Terrible Texans" includes: "Comanches are still 'cutting up' their deviltries about & around Fort Davis...They, as usual, took his scalp...most fiendish and diabolical signs of amusement such as laughing & whooping. The thing appeared to them to be a source of demonic mirth..." and more (see).
