SATURDAY EVENING POST, Philadelphia, Sept. 23, 1848 Page 3 begins with a lengthy article: "California" which begins: "A gold fever rages in California. The whole population have left off tilling the soil, and are engaged in searching for gold amid the sands which border the Feather River..." with much more, including a nice letter detailing how the mining happens, the dramatic increases in prices, and the mania of people leaving other pursuits to search for gold.
A very fine, and quite early account of the discovery of gold in California.
Four pages, a very large size paper measuring 25 by 33 inches, folded three times, some wear at the folds and minor margin tears. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
