December 10, 1695

ATHENIAN MERCURY, London, England, Dec. 10, 1695  A fine gentleman's newspaper which was very popular in the coffeehouses of early England.
This newspaper was done in question/answer format. The first one is a curious one and comes with an illustration (rarely found) of the writer's "nativity": "...advise me in these few things; first whether it be allotted me to have a wife? What manner of woman she will be? Where she doth live, how I may be acquainted with her, and how long first. I am a piece of an artist, and have gotten some learning, tho I am but a poor tradesman, and have here sent you the scheme of my nativity, desiring your better judgements upon it...".
Single sheet, 6 3/4 by 12 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
This newspaper published at a time when there were no newspapers in all of the American colonies.
A single sheet newspaper printed on both sides (typical for the period), 7 by 12 inches, very nice condition.
