Yosemite diagram and discoveries...

Item # 669335

October 18, 1865

NEW-YORK TRIBUNE, Oct. 18, 1865

* Very early Yosemite description w/ diagram

The front page has a detailed, column-wide diagram and a wonderful account of a visit the Yosemite Valley and surrounding region: "From The Missouri To The Pacific...XVI" "Yosemite--Its Discovery--Our Party--View From Inspiration Point--Entering the Valley" & more.
The report begins: "See Yosemite and die! I shall not try to describe it; the theme is too large and my capacity too small...". This is one of the best, early accounts of what would some day become Yosemite National Park that we have seen, taking 1 1/3 columns. The diagram is labelled with many of the locations the world has come to adore.
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed, scattered foxing, archival mend to an interior page, nice condition.
