ILLINOIS JOURNAL, Springfield, Feb. 7, 1849  Page 3 has two articles concerning the California Gold Rush.
"California Items" is mostly concerning the passengers at Chagres, Panama, mid-way on their journey to California. Also: "...that Lt. Frisby...has written to his family that he has accumulated $200,000 worth of gold dust...". And: "Distress In the Gold Region" notes in part: "...state of distress & suffering prevails here such as the world probably never before saw. People were so eager to get gold that they only thought how to get here.....bringing no provisions with them...All rushed to the mines..." and more.
Four pages, nice condition. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
