Item # 667706 THE COLUMBIAN MAGAZINE, Philadelphia, January, 1788  Articles include: "The Life of John Winthrop" "An Essay on Civil Liberty, by Hume" "A Tract on the Unreasonableness of the Laws of England in Regard to Wives" "An Historical Account of the First Settlement of the Swedes in America" which takes 3 pages; "Origin of the Society Called Dunkards" and much more.
The last leaf--taken from another issue, slightly smaller with various creases & irregular at the margins--has: "Intelligence" with news from various locations in the United States, including a warning: "...The public are cautioned against counterfeit dollars now in circulation dated 1786; they are well executed & may deceive even a workman if not close examined..." with further details.
Lacking the plate called for.
Complete in 52 pages, full title/contents page, 5 by 8 inches, various staining & some dirtiness, some wear at the margins. And see the note above concerning the last leaf.

This title has the honor of being the first successful American magazine, having begun in September, 1786 and lasting until December, 1792.
