NEW YORK DAILY TIMES, June 18, 1856 The entire front page is taken up with details of the Republican National Convention, held in Philadelphia. The Republican party was just created two years prior.
This was the very first national convention in the history of the Republican Party, and was held to nominate the party's candidates for president and vice president in the 1856 election. The convention selected former Senator John C. Frémont of California for president.
Eight pages, slightly irregular at the blank spine from disbinding, Nice condition.
