January 20, 1795

GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES, Philadelphia, Jan. 20, 1795  Page 3 contains a letter signed "A Militia man" which relates to the on-going struggles with the Whiskey Rebellion in Western Pennsylvania.
The back page has an ad for a lottery: "For the Improvement of the Federal City" then under construction.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, great condition.

This was the home of the nation's capital at the time while awaiting the completion of the "federal city" at Washington, D.C., where it would move in 1800.
