Terrific report as the Mexican War nears its end...

Item # 657897

September 16, 1847

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Sept. 16, 1847

* Battle for Mexico City
* General Winfield Scott victory
* Mexican-American War ending

Much of page 2 is taken up great & very detailed accounts of the final battles of the Mexican War before the Armistice, as General Scott advances upon Mexico City.
The page begins with column heads: "THE LATE VICTORIES IN MEXICO" "Total Defeat of the Mexicans--General Scott Encamped Within two & a half miles of the City of Mexico--Armistice Between the Two Armies--Negotiations for a Peace Commenced".
This is one of the better reports on the entire war. Armistice talks would fail and on Sept. 14 General Scott marched triumphantly into Mexico City.
Additional reports on page 3 with: "From the Division of Gen. Wood" being a letter from Camp Buena Vista; and then also: "From Santa Fe" which includes a letter with that dateline.
Four pages, very nice condition.
