Page 3 has an article: "Gold Digging" which includes a very good letter on the details, including: "The suffering from heat is almost incredible...The changes from heat to cold are very sudden & prejudicial to health. Much sickness prevailed at Sacramento...Board at the mines cost from $14 to $20 a week...The labor of digging for gold is intolerable to any but the stoutest & most robust frames..." with more, and ending with a final dismal comment: "...The biggest lump of gold that has yet been found (or imagined) in California would be insufficient to tempt either of them to pay the country another visit."
Page 3 also has: "The California Emigration" which reports on ships making the trip.
Four pages, very nice condition.
