* John Paul Jones
* Revolutionary War
Page 3 has a letter dated at Boston noting in part: "...Captain Pyne mentions in his letter that the Americans are determined never to submit to Great Britain". and further on: "...Letters have been received...who have made their escape from Brest whither they were some time since taken prisoners by Paul Jones. They are both arrived at Cork & reports that upwards of 280 English seamen are confined on board Jones's vessel, the Ranger, and that an old French frigate is fitting out for him at Brest & is to sail under American colours." This latter item is a rare reference to the French ship Duc de Duras which was renamed the Bonhomme Richard under American colors, under the command of which John Paul Jones would gain fame with his victory over the British ship Serapis.
Four pages, good condition.
