THE TOMAHAWK, "Saturday Journal of Satire", London, England, June 5, 1869 This title was focused on satire and was a conservative piece in opposition to B. Disraeli who would soon become Prime Minister. Very similar to the more popular "Punch" of the day, it combined a good deal of genuine amusement with a zealous effort at social reform. The image of a tomahawk hatchet, ready to scalp the politicians of the day, became the symbolic mascot for this comic journal.
Included is a double-page foldout two-color print "Again He Urges On His Wild Career! or, The Modern Mazeppa"
Twelve pages, 9 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
