August 08, 1890

PUBLIC LEDGER, Philadelphia, August 8, 1890

* William Francis Kemmler
* 1st electric chair execution

* From the city where he is from

Front page coverage on William Kemmler, who had the dubious distinction of being the first person to die by the electric chair. One column headings: "ELECTRICAL EXECUTION" "Physicians And Electricians On The Subject" and more. (see) Text takes up just over a full column. He would be executed on this day. Nice to have in a Philadelphia paper, his hometown.
Other news of the day. Complete in 16 pages, large issue measuring 29 x 21 inches, some margin wear with small tears, generally good. Should be handled with care.
