March 30, 1919

NEW YORK TIMES, section 2 only, March 30, 1919

* Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
* Debut of the combined shows - Very 1st

The front page of this section has a one column heading: "Super Circus Draws Crowd To Garden" with subheads: "Combined Ringling and Barnum & Bailey Shows Open Season Here" "Acts Stir The Spectators" "Thrills Abound in Performance Which Has Best Troupes of Two Old Organizations". This was the debut of this famous circus which occurred at Madison Square Garden.
Complete section 2 only with all 12 pages, a little staining along the spine, generally nice.

wikipedia notes: The Ringlings purchased the Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth in 1907 and ran the circuses separately until 1919. By that time, Charles Edward Ringling and John Nicholas Ringling were the only remaining brothers of the five who founded the circus. They decided that it was too difficult to run the two circuses independently, and on March 29, 1919, "Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Combined Shows" debuted in New York City.
