March 18, 1847

NEW YORK TRIBUNE, March 18, 1847  The ftpg. has a notable report on the Taos Revolt (see the web) with several column heads including: "From New Mexico" "Important Intelligence" "Mexican Insurrection at Taos" "Horrible Massacre" "Governor of New Mexico Murdered" "Assassination of Americans" "Probable Capture of Santa Fe".
The Taos Revolt was a popular insurrection in January 1847 by Hispano/New Mexican and Pueblo allies against the United States' occupation of present-day northern New Mexico during the Mexican–American War. In two short campaigns, United States troops and militia crushed the rebellion. The rebels regrouped and fought three more engagements, but after being defeated, they abandoned open warfare.
Also on the ftpg. are a few reports from the Mexican War headed: "Later from the Seat of War!" "Gen. Scott's Arrival At Tampico" "His Departure for Lobos" "Embarkation of Troops".
Four pages, some tears at margins, some discrete archival mends at margins, minor loss to an upper corner affects very little.
