The steamship "Atlantic" was a transatlantic ship which sank on April 1 off the coast of Nova Scotia, at the time the deadliest American maritime disaster with 535 people dead. Almost the entire front page is taken up with reports on the disaster, headed: "The Mars Head Wreck" "Operations of the Divers--Gloomy Search for the Dead--Carelessness or Criminality Regarding Valuables" and many subheads as well. Considerable details.
Of added interest is a page 7 advertisement for "Niblo's Garden" theater which has: "Ned Butline's thrilling realism, The Scouts Of The Prairie...Hon. W. F. Cody...the original...Buffalo Bill..." with a bit more (see).
Complete in never bound nor trimmed, a few holes near spine & central fold have been archivally repaired with the loss of a few words..
