NEW YORK TIMES, Feb. 5, 1862 Page 3 has an article: "The Invention of Anesthesia" "Facts from an Eye Witness--The Validity of the Ether Patent--Horace Wells the Original Discoverer of 'Anesthesia' ". This letter was written by G. Q. Colton concerning work done in 1844, corroborated by the report in this hyperlink.
Civil War related content as well. Eight pages, very nice condition.
