THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, Michigan, February 1, 1956  The front page of this issue has an article entitled "The Birdman of Alcatraz". "Fortune Thrusts 3 Sparrows on Felon". "Robert F. Stroud became a world authority on birds and their diseases in a box-like little cell. He is a prisoner in Alcatraz, and has been confined in 'solitary' at various Federal penitentiaries for 40 years. This is his story..." This is the first installment of the Birdman's story and includes a small pencil etching of him with a bird on his shoulder.

Complete in 36 pages with several binding holes along the left spine, a small triangular hole and library stamp in the masthead area, otherwise in nice condition.
