DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, May 25, 1864
* Battle of Resaca, Georgia
* Rare rebel title
A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederate states, the city through which all important war news flowed. Among front page items are: "The War News" which takes over a column & has a subhead: "From The Peninsula--Outrages by the Yankees In New Kent & Charles City Counties" "The Cadet Corps In Richmond" 'The Yankee Wounded" "From the Trans-Mississippi--The Recent Battles & Operations Along the Lower Mississippi--Banks' Whole Army Likely to be Captured--Great Rejoicing at New Orleans--Mutiny Among the Garrison at Port Hudson" and also: "Telegraphic Reports....From Yankeedom" and "From the Armies In Georgia. Included also is the "Lost Of Casualties" in the 15th Alabama Regiment from the battles of the Wilderness & around Spotsylvania Court House (see photos).
The back page includes the always interesting editorial which includes near the beginning: "...there were be no immediate collision between the great armies near the city. Such an opinion showed little knowledge of Grant's previous career. He is not McClellan or Meade or Burnside. Grant is a most expeditious personage. He expects to play the same game with Lee & Richmond that he die with Pemberton & Vicksburg...Grant has brought his whole army boldly over the river. Lee confronts him before the Junction..." with much more. Also on the bkpg. is must reporting from "The Confederate Congress" as well as "Latest News From the North" and "Latest From General Johnston's Army--Advance of the Enemy--The Battle of Resaca" with various details (see for portions).
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead, very wide right margin, a few minor archival mends at the edges, very nice, clean condition.
