August 23, 1934

THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 23, 1934

* Al "Scarface" Capone - Gangster - Mob boss
* Alcatraz Island Prison - San Francisco Bay

The front page has one column headings: "CAPONE IN A CELL ON ALCATRAZ ISLE" "With 42 Others He Is Whisked to Bay Prison in Secrecy After Trip From Atlanta" "HE PROTESTED TRANSFER" and more. (see) Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 36 pages, a little margin wear, generally nice.

wikipedia notes: In May 1932, Capone was sent to Atlanta U.S. Penitentiary, a tough federal prison, but he was able to obtain special privileges. He was then transferred to Alcatraz, where tight security and an uncompromising warden ensured that Capone had no contact with the outside world. His isolation from his associates and the repeal of Prohibition in January 1933, precipitously diminished his power.
