THE NEW YORK TIMES, October 9, 1928
* NYC speakeasy - speakeasies
* Prohibition era police raids
* Beer - liquor illegal
The front page has a two column headline: "20 SPEAKEASIES RAIDED IN DRIVE BACKED BY MAYOR AS LIQUOR KILLS 21 IN DAY" with subheads. (see) A nice issue for display for any home bar or tavern.
Other news, sports and advertisements during the prohibition era in America. Complete in 64 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
