October 22, 1765

THE EDINBURGH ADVERTISER, Scotland, Oct. 22, 1765  Page 3 has a report from Charleston noting: "...that Pondiack [Pontiac] has again commenced hostilities on the lakes and has stirred up several powerful nations against us. The Shawanese, it is added, appear in no good temper..." with more (see).  Another report from Boston has some good content concerning the hated Stamp Act including: "We hear from Virginia that the stampman for that colony had resigned the same & taken his passage for England....the stampman for New York has also resigned that office, which it is thought will be followed by every other stamp-officer throughout North America...". The Stamp Act content gets even better on the following page where is found a nice letter concerning the use of stamped paper, followed by a Proclamation by Governor Bernard of Mass., and this followed by a Jared Ingersol "To the Good People of Connecticut" which includes in part: "When I undertook the office of distributor of stamps for this colony...I find...that you shall not incline to purchase or make use of any stamped paper. I shall not force it upon you...I cannot but with you would think more how to get rid of the stamp act..." and more. Also a letter to the people of Newport from the stamp officer there (see).
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, nice condition.
