COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Dec. 18, 1819 The front page has a document: "Full Powers - James Monroe" authorizing John Quincy Adams with negotiating powers, signed: James Monroe (see). This was for his efforts in the: "Treaty of Amity Settlement and Limits" which is printed on the front page in full & signed in type by John Quincy Adams and Luis De Onis for Spain. This is known as the Adams-Onis Treaty which ceded Florida to the U.S. and defined the boundary between the U.S. and New Spain. It settled a standing border dispute between the two countries and was considered a triumph of American diplomacy (see hyperlink).
