THE DENVER POST, July 30, 1955

* Space Race begins
* U.S. vs. Soviet Union

The front page has a nice banner headline which essentially announced the creation of the "space race" between the United States and the Soviet Union: "U. S. TO BUILD MAN-MADE MOON TO CIRCLE EARTH" with caption: "Space 'Rocket' Plan Revealed" and subhead. (see) Related photo inside. In reality the Soviets would take the lead in the space race with the successful launch of Sputnik 1 in October, 1957. The American would respond 4 months later with a spectacular failure, to be followed-up by its first space success in early 1958 (see hyperlink for much more).
The announcement in this newspaper is part of the Wikipedia report on the space race (see). This is a very notable event, essentially announcing the start of the now-famous space race & as such a cornerstone issue for any space collection.
Incomplete issue containing 8 of the 16 pages of the 1st section only, of a 48 page newspaper, archival mending to a margin tear, great for display as such.
