October 01, 1846
THE CHARTER OAK, Hartford, Connecticut, Oct. 1, 1846
* Rare anti-slavery title
A very uncommon title originally published as the Christian Freeman by the Connecticut Anti-Slavery Society, and then under this title. Obviously has anti-slavery content, but also news of the day and other content. The front page has a poem: "The Slave's Petition". A volume I issue (number 39), with an engraving of an oak tree in the masthead.
Four pages, scattered foxing, generally good.
