The very bold, large banner headline announces one of the biggest naval tragedies of the 20th century: "LINERS COLLIDE; SAVE 1134 AT SEA. Ships Crash Off Atlantic Coast". This was the collision of the ships Stockholm and Andrea Doria not far from Nantucket Island, causing the death of 52 and the sinking of the Andrea Doria.
