January 15, 1682

THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, Jan. 15, 1682  The back page has an interesting--and false--rumor of the death of William Penn: "Whereas there is a report spread abroad of the death of William Penn Esq., Proprietary of Pensilvania, to the great prejudice of his affairs; These are to give notice that there is no manner of ground for it, the last ship that came from thence having brought letters from him, which left him in perfect health, as any person may be further satisfied by Mr. Phillip Ford in Row Lane, London." (see). Indeed, he would live til the year 1718.
