May 11, 1671

THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, May 11, 1671  Of the various events of the interesting life of Col. Thomas Blood, by far his most adventurous escapade was his infamous attempt to steal the crown jewels on May 9 (see hyperlink for more details).
The back page has a very lengthy & quite detailed account of the event, beginning: "This morning about seven of the clock, four men coming to Mr. Edwards, keeper of the Jewel House in the Tower, desired to see the Regal Crown remaining in his custody..." followed by much more. Further on mentions: "...With the two that were taken, were found the Crown and Ball...one of them proves to be Blood, that notorious Traytor and incendiary who was outlawed for the Rebellion in Ireland..." with more, and concluding: "...They are all three sent close prisoners to the Tower for the present."
Single sheet, 7 by 11 inches, a few tiny worm holes in the spine margin, a bit of foxing/dirtiness to the top half of the front page.
