THE AMERICAN MAGAZINE, New York, July, 1788 This is rare issue of a magazine edited by Noah Webster, and which lasted but one year, ending with the November, 1788 issue (see Mott's "History of American Magazines", vol. 1, p104-7). This was New York's first monthly magazine. The format is much like other magazines of the 18th century, with various political essay, literary items, and other items. Included within are: "On the Game of Cricket & Whist" & "On the Treatment of Slaves" and more.
This issue is missing the last 20 leaves so it is very much incomplete. Measures 4 1/2 by 8 inches and otherwise in nice condition.
An extremely rare 18th century imprint seldom offered.
